International ballet stars to work with midstate dance students
World-class ballet instructors are coming to Carlisle to pirouette with aspiring dancers.
The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet will launch its first Artist in Residence Program this fall, as Wes Chapman, international classical ballet teacher, kicks off the series in September.
Chapman, a former American Ballet Theatre dancer, and past artistic director of the Alabama Ballet, will share his knowledge, experience and passion for the classical dance form with CPYB students for six weeks from Sept. 6 through Oct. 19, said Nicholas Ade, school principal.
Two artists in residence will work with CPYB’s intermediate and advanced students during the program’s inaugural year.
Yuri Zhukov, who danced professionally with the Kirov Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, will work with students during the spring semester.
Zhukov will spend six weeks with the CPYB from Jan. 5 through Feb. 15.
